Kesari 2 Movie Review: Akshay Kumar Delivers a Powerful Performance in a Must-Watch Film

Akshay Kumar is back with Kesari 2, a film based on a very emotional and sensitive part of Indian history — the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. I recently got a chance to attend the fan screening of this film, and I watched it early so I could bring this review to you as soon as possible.

When the trailer of Kesari 2 was released, it created a lot of excitement and high expectations. The trailer looked powerful, and since it is the sequel to a successful film (Kesari), people were curious. The movie also covers a strong subject – the Jallianwala Bagh genocide, which made it even more intense.

But honestly, the advance booking numbers were quite low. It didn’t feel like an Akshay Kumar film was releasing. It reminded me of Arjun Kapoor’s movies where excitement is missing. That’s sad, because Kesari 2 had potential from the beginning.

In recent times, Akshay Kumar’s movies have not been doing well. Even Sky Force, which was a decent film, failed to make a strong box office collection. Despite the good content, poor promotions and bad timing affected its performance. People even blamed Veer Pahariya for dragging down that film.

But in Kesari 2, Akshay Kumar shines again. Just like Sunny Deol was getting apologies in Gadar 2, here Akshay Kumar is making the British say “Sorry!” for their crimes. It feels powerful and patriotic.

The movie starts with a horrific recreation of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. This sets the tone for the rest of the film. Soon, we are introduced to Shankaran Nair, the man who takes a stand against the British. His entry brings a powerful twist to the story.

Honestly, when you watch this film, you will feel anger towards the British Empire. The story and dialogues are so intense that they hit straight to your heart.

If I had to describe Kesari 2 in one line:
👉 It’s a must-watch film.

But there are a few small problems:

  • The pacing is too fast, so some emotional scenes don’t have the full impact.
  • Random background music (BGM) and screenplay shifts reduce seriousness.
  • A sudden dance number in between serious scenes feels out of place.

Also, one major issue — there are many English dialogues, but no English subtitles. Many people, even today, need subtitles to understand English conversations. The lack of subtitles makes it difficult for the audience to understand some scenes.

There’s nothing in the film that truly requires an A (Adult) certificate. Other movies like Chhava have shown more violence, yet got a U/A certificate. It feels like the censor board gave an A just because of a few English curse words.

This affects viewership because families might avoid the movie, thinking it has adult content — when in reality, it doesn’t.

Despite a few issues, the climax is brilliant. Akshay Kumar delivers a Jolly LLB-level performance. The courtroom drama, his speeches, and that powerful moment where he wears a black coat and the background music “O Shera Out Zara” plays — it gives you goosebumps!

You will literally clap and cheer. The climax is worth the price of the ticket alone.

Besides Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan and Amit Sial also do a great job. But the biggest surprise is Ananya Panday. Yes, you read that right! She looks innocent, plays her part well, and gives a performance that might make you say, “Sorry for judging you before.”

Her role is simple but impactful, and she definitely contributes positively to the film.

Compared to a well-crafted film like Sardar Udham, Kesari 2 feels a bit rushed. The screenplay could have been better, and the emotional impact could have been stronger. But this doesn’t mean you should miss it.

This is a story you won’t find in school textbooks — the untold story of Shankaran Nair and the battle for justice after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

To wrap it up:

🎬 Kesari 2 is a powerful, emotional, and patriotic film.

🎟️ Don’t wait. Book your tickets and watch it with your family.

🌟 My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Despite some technical flaws, this is a story that deserves to be told, and Akshay Kumar deserves credit for doing it well. We must support films that speak about India’s forgotten heroes.
